Chamber announces scholarship

The Lewis County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the Judy Applegate Memorial/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship.  The chamber will provide one $500 non-renewable scholarship to a member of the Lewis County High School Class of 2008.

In 2005, the scholarship was named in honor of the late Ms. Judy Applegate, a Vanceburg businesswoman.  Ms. Applegate was a Charter Member of the chamber and was a member of the chamber’s Board of Director s, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer.  Judy worked hard for the chamber organization and it is with great pleasure that the Board of Director s honors her memory with this scholarship fund.  This is the fifth year for offering this scholarship.

Applications for the Judy Applegate Memorial Scholarship are available at the Lewis County High School Guidance Office, online at Lewis County Chamber 2008 Scholarship Application, or may be requested through mail by calling Tracy McGuire at 606-796-0183.  Those applying for the scholarship will be required to submit a brief biography, transcripts of their high school grades/test scores, financial needs information, letters of recommendations, and an essay about their professional goals/community contributions. Applicants are very much encouraged to read the Scholarship Guidelines to make sure they follow directions and not lose out by missing a simple step in the process.

For more information on the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce please visit their office located within the George Morgan Thomas home or call for more information at 606-796-0999 or the Vanceburg Visitors Center at 606-796-0238.

Laura Jamison is the 2007 winner of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce Judy Applegate Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 scholarship.

She is the daughter of Rocky and Nedra Jamison of Garrison. Laura's plans included attending Morehead State University in the fall majoring in nursing, but was delayed a semester as a result of a serious traffic accident.

Throughout high school she was a member of FLBA, Art Club and PULSAR. She is dedicated to succeeding at whatever task she is given whether it be school, work or volunteering.
